Summary

A wood-burning masonry fireplace in Springfield needed a full cleaning and inspection to address years of use and keep the system safe for the upcoming season. The homeowner wanted peace of mind before lighting any fires.

The Work

Performed rotary sweeping of the flue, removing built-up creosote and debris from the firebox, smoke chamber, damper area, and flue
Contained dust and debris using HEPA filtration to protect the home
Conducted a detailed visual inspection of accessible fireplace and chimney components
Used a flue camera scan to document the internal condition and check for defects or safety concerns

The Outcome

As part of the inspection, we performed a 360° camera scan of the flue using our Peeper Sweeper inspection system. That scan revealed something that was not readily visible from below: cracked flue liner tiles.

It’s always satisfying to leave a fireplace clean, but sometimes the most important part of an inspection is identifying a hazardous condition before it becomes a bigger problem. Delivering that news isn’t the fun part of the job—but helping homeowners and property managers make informed decisions about fireplace safety is exactly why thorough inspections matter.

If you’re unsure when your fireplace or chimney was last professionally cleaned and inspected, Apex Chimney Care is happy to help.
